WELCOME TO APRICITY THERAPY
Our mission is to help you find meaning and make sense of modern motherhood.
Make Sense
Motherhood brings with it so many expectationsβboth social and personal. At Apricity Therapy, we explore these "shoulds" together, understanding how they show up through your matrescence, family dynamics, and past experiences. Itβs about making sense of how these forces shape your unique journey.
Find
In the midst of it all, itβs easy to lose sight of yourself. Apricity Therapy is a place where you can pause, reflect, and reconnect with who you are. Whether youβre finding yourself for the first time or realigning with what feels true, weβre here to support that process.
Make Meaning
Motherhood doesnβt come with a universal definition of success or happiness. Weβre here to help you explore what those words mean for you, in the context of your relationships, your family, and your life. Itβs about creating meaning in a way that feels real and sustainable for you.
At Apricity Therapy, we offer a safe, warm, and non-judgmental space to simply be. We honor the ambivalence that often comes with motherhoodβthe mix of emotions, the highs and lowsβand welcome it all. Here, youβre invited to share openly, to be curious, and to feel supported as you navigate this deeply transformative time.
Weβre not about fixing or perfectingβweβre about cultivating wholeness, however that looks and feels for you in this season of motherhood.
YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO FIND THAT MOTHERS ALONGSIDE & BEFORE YOU FEEL:
lost and disorientated: struggling to find their identity in motherhood
overwhelmed or stressed: like theyβre juggling too many responsibilities or overstimulated by the environment theyβre in
angry or resentful: battling feelings they didnβt expect
disconnected: with their kids, or their partner, or themself
ashamed: with their feelings and behaviours in motherhood
longing for the old them: missing the person they once were in motherhood
This is all really normal, in the context of matrescence and the institute of motherhood and Apricity Therapy is here to help navigate through it.
Cultivating wholeness in Motherhood
Becoming a mother is an experience unlike any other. It brings immeasurable joy, love and pride while also testing our resilience and challenging us in ways we may never have anticipated.
Motherhood can be full of contradictionsβbeauty and difficulty, fulfillment and struggle, connection and loss of self. That's where apricity comes in. Apricity means the warmth of the sun in winter, a perfect metaphor for the ambivalence of motherhood. Just as the sun's warmth feels most precious in the cold, so too can the most tender, growth producing moments emerge from the challenges of motherhood.
At Apricity Therapy, we believe in embracing this complexity - of both emotion and our self. Our mission is to support you as you navigate the highs and lows, helping you find meaning and wholeness along the way.
Why OT Support in Motherhood?
Motherhood is a significant life transition that touches every part of who you areβphysically, emotionally, and socially. Itβs not just about caring for your child; itβs about navigating a whole new version of yourself, your roles, and your relationships. This is where Occupational Therapy (OT) can offer unique support.
Occupational Therapists are trained to look at the whole picture of your life, helping you make sense of the changes and challenges that come with motherhood. We donβt just focus on tasks or to-do lists; we work with you to restore balance, reconnect with your body, and support your mental health in a way thatβs sustainable and deeply personal.

An Occupational Therapistβs role is to empower individuals to improve performance and participation in meaningful roles and occupations. The occupational disruption that comes with mothering, alongside the need to adapt to multiple personal, environmental, and occupational factors, can lead to feelings of disorientation regarding oneβs sense of self. This experience is common and normal.

Occupational Therapy is grounded in the understanding that engaging in meaningful activities is essential for our health and wellbeing. We arn't going to try and help you do more fun things, rather we want you to find your meaning, in motherhood and your other important roles. We use an integrative, holistic and mother-centered approach of psychological, somatic, sensory, trauma & attachment informed practices to support you.
Heya, Iβm Sarah.
I am the founder of Apricity Therapy, a mother and a Mental Health Occupational Therapist in practice for mothers.
I am your regular neighbourhood mum, whose own experience of early motherhood shifted my entire centre of gravity in ways I did not expect. I am a Matrescence Reveller at heart, a recovering perfectionist and people pleaser.
Alongside you, I am working hard at rewriting my own narratives, embracing discomfort and doing it anyway.
I canβt wait to help you through your motherhood journey x
Matrescence a developmental process, a forgotten rite of passage. It is a time of βmother-becomingβ, when a woman transitions through pre-conception, conception, birth, postpartum and beyond. Coined by Dr Dana Raphael in 1973,
βChildbirth brings about a series of very drastic changes in the new mothers physical being, in her emotional life, in her status within the group, even within her own female identity. I distinguish this period of transition from others by terming it matrescence to emphasis the mother and focus on her new lifestyleβ
Since 1973, Matrescence has been revived and cemented as a developmental process, akin to adolescence. When a woman transitions from Maiden, to Mother - impacting her across biological, psychological, spiritual, political and social domains of her life.
